Change is the Theme, Don't Wear it out

The 44th President of the United States was inaugurated today. It was the realization of the statement that the people of the United States made on a Tuesday, last November. It was the manifestation of that statement and in that, it was important.

Now comes the grind. We have the next four years to tell if President Obama can be the leader and facilitator of positive change that he inspired many of us to believe in. Unfortunately, the Office of the President has undergone scandal after scandal and has lost its veneer for many. One may say the honor of being president is teetering on being moreso a burden than a desirable office.

Perhaps it is just that as an adult I am more aware of the actions of the administration that this man leads than I was 20 some-odd years ago. However, the task ahead of redeeming that office in the eyes of the people needs to extend beyond the oval office but is a duty of the men and women serving in its administration.

All in all, change for the sake and fever of change is not a good thing if there is little to no direction. My fear is that now that the festivities are over and the exhaltation of the event has passed, that what will occur is that the administration we elected only maintains the status quo or enacts just enough of the "promised change" to substantiate a second term. We need a group of individuals to go the distance and not fill the news up with the puffery of salesmen and tiny minds.

History was made today in a matter of minutes. However, real history is to be made in the immediate days, weeks, and years to follow.
